Pon and energy supplier Essent on track for sustainability
Pon and power company Essent have signed a 2-year contract for the supply of Green Gas. During this period Pon will run all of its newly delivered natural gas vehicles (when sold) on this sustainable fuel for a year.
Also, a new model that can be fuelled with Green Gas has been unveiled: the Volkswagen Passat TSI EcoFuel. This alliance makes Pon the Netherlands' biggest supplier of cars running on Green Gas. By opting for Green Gas, Pon is highlighting the importance of CO2 reduction.
Green Gas
Green Gas can originate from landfills, water treatment plants and industrial and agricultural co-digestion plants. Bacteria are used to transform organic materials into biological gas under anaerobic conditions. Once this 'biogas' has been refined to natural gas quality and fed into the gas network, it is referred to as Green Gas. The waste processing plants of Essent Milieu in Wijster and Tilburg have been producing Green Gas by means of extraction from landfill gas for almost two decades.
Achievements
The biggest advantages of driving on Green Gas are that it is clean, relatively inexpensive and entirely CO2-neutral. As well as an A-label, the Passat TSI EcoFuel will be subject to a lower addition for tax purposes of 20 per cent if government policy remains unchanged.
